ประโยคปฏิเสธ

ในภาษาองั กฤษ การปฏเิ สธทำ� ไดห้ ลายวธิ ี วธิ หี นงึ่ คอื ใช้ not ถา้ ประโยคมกี รยิ าชว่ ยจะเปน็
modal, BE หรอื HAVE ก็ตาม การปฏิเสธทำ� ไดด้ ้วยการเตมิ not หลงั กรยิ าชว่ ยตัวแรก เช่น

1. a. They should go to the party.
b. They should not go to the party.
2. a. The boy is studying in the library.
b. The boy is not studying in the library.
3. a. The children have eaten the sandwiches.
b. The children have not eaten the sandwiches.
4. a. He could be working while you were away.
b. He could not be working while you were away.
กริยาอ่ืนๆ นอกจาก BE เมอื่ ไม่มกี ริยาช่วยในประโยค จะต้องใช้ do/does/did กบั not
ตามดว้ ยกรยิ าในรูป base form ดังตวั อย่างตอ่ ไปน้ี
5. a. My dog likes meat.
b. My dog does not like meat.
6. a. Bill left at 3 o’clock.
b. Bill did not leave at 3 o’clock.
7. a. They play tennis every week.
b. They do not play tennis every week.
ค�ำ not ซ่ึงใช้แสดงการปฏิเสธน้ีอาจย่อรวมเป็นค�ำเดียวกับกริยาช่วย เมื่อออกเสียงก็ออก
เปน็ nt ตอ่ ทา้ ยกริยาช่วย เมื่อเขยี นก็เขียน n’t ต่อทา้ ยกรยิ าช่วย ดังน้นั ประโยค b ในตวั อยา่ ง
1–7 อาจรวมกรยิ าช่วยกบั not เขา้ ดว้ ยกัน ดงั นี้
1. c. They shouldn’t go to the party.
2. c The boy isn’t studying in the library.
3. c. The children haven’t eaten the sandwiches.
4. c. He couldn’t be working while you were away.
5. c. My dog doesn’t like meat.
6. c. Bill didn’t leave at 3 o’clock.
7. c. They don’t play tennis every week.
