การส่ังหรือห้ามไมใ่ หท้ �ำน้นั รูปประโยคจะต่างจากคำ� สง่ั ให้ท�ำตรงทใ่ี ช้ do not หรอื don’t
ตามด้วยกริยาในรูป base form เช่น
Do not run. Don’t run.
Do not open the door. Don’t open the door.
นอกจากจะใช้ประโยคค�ำส่ังบอกผู้ฟังตรงๆ ให้ท�ำส่ิงหน่ึงส่ิงใดแล้ว ผู้พูดอาจเลือกใช้
รปู ประโยคแบบอนื่ เชน่ ประโยคคำ� ถามหรอื ประโยคบอกเลา่ ทแี่ สดงความประสงคบ์ อกทางออ้ มหรอื
ขอรอ้ งอยา่ งสภุ าพก็ได้ เช่น
