การรวมแบบ Coordination

การรวมประโยคแบบน้ี เป็นการรวม independent clause ด้วยการใช้สันธานประเภท
coordinating conjunction ซงึ่ อาจเปน็ คำ� เดย่ี ว เชน่ and, but, or และ for หรอื คำ� คู่ เชน่ both…
and, not only…but also, either…or, neither…nor

การจะใช้สันธานตัวใดนั้นข้ึนอยู่กับความสัมพันธ์ระหว่าง independent clause ว่าคล้อย
ตามกัน แยง้ กนั หรือเปน็ เหตุเปน็ ผลกนั เช่น

1. She washed the dishes, and he dried them.
2. John is poor, but he is happy.
3. They should start early, for they have a long way to go.
4. You can go by train, or you can go by boat.
5. Either you have to work hard or you will lose your job.
ถา้ พจิ ารณาสว่ นประกอบของ independent clause ทเี่ ชือ่ มดว้ ย coordinating conjunc-
tion แลว้ จะเหน็ วา่ มีโครงสรา้ งแบบเดยี วกัน หากไม่มีสันธานเชื่อมแต่ละ clause กเ็ ป็นประโยคท่ี
สมบูรณ์ได้ ประโยคประเภทน้ีอาจรวมเป็นประโยคเดียวกันได้โดยไม่ต้องมีสันธาน เพียงแต่ใช้
semicolon (;) ระหว่าง independent clause เช่น
6. He plays the guitar; his sister plays the piano.
7. He phoned the police; he had heard an explosion.
ความสมั พนั ธร์ ะหวา่ งขอ้ ความใน 6. และ 7. ไมม่ คี ำ� ทรี่ ะบใุ หเ้ หน็ ชดั เจน แตผ่ ทู้ ไี่ ดย้ นิ ไดฟ้ งั
หรือได้อา่ นขอ้ ความน้ี ก็ทราบว่าข้อความใน 6. คล้อยตามกัน สว่ นขอ้ ความใน 7. น้นั เป็นเหตเุ ปน็
ผลกนั
ในการรวม independent clause เราอาจระบุความสมั พันธร์ ะหว่างข้อความให้เหน็ ชดั เจน
ไดด้ ว้ ยการใชค้ ำ� เชอ่ื มประเภท conjunctive adverbs คำ� เชอ่ื มประเภทนแี้ สดงความสมั พนั ธร์ ะหวา่ ง
ข้อความที่เรียงต่อกันเท่านั้น เคร่ืองหมายวรรคตอนที่ใช้คือ semicolon ระหว่าง independent
clause และ comma หลงั conjunctive adverbs ดังตัวอย่างต่อไปน้ี
8. They have a long way to go; therefore, they should start early.
9. The weather was absolutely dreadful; however, the children enjoyed them-
selves.
