การรวมประโยคหลายๆ ประโยคเขา้ ดว้ ยกนั อาจทำ� ไดด้ ว้ ยการใชท้ งั้ สองแบบ คอื รวมสว่ น
หน่ึงด้วยวิธี coordination และอีกส่วนหน่ึงด้วยวิธี subordination ท�ำให้เกิดประโยคท่ีเรียกว่า
compound-complex sentence
อกี ประการหนง่ึ การรวมประโยคเขา้ ดว้ ยกนั น้ี จะใช้ coordinating conjunction, conjunc-
tive adverbs, subordinating conjunction หรอื เพียงแตใ่ ช้ semicolon แสดงความสัมพนั ธข์ อง
ข้อความนั้น ข้ึนอยู่กับลีลาการเขียน ความต้องการประโยคลักษณะต่างๆ ท้ังนี้เพราะความหมาย
ของประโยคยังคงเดมิ การรวมแบบตา่ งๆ เพยี งแตท่ �ำใหร้ ปู ประโยคแตกต่างไปเทา่ นนั้ ดงั ตัวอย่าง
ต่อไปน้ี
1. a. It is a nice day. The beach will be crowded.
b. It is a nice day; the beach will be crowded.
c. It is a nice day, and the beach will be crowded.
d. Because it is a nice day, the beach will be crowded.
2. a. The Japanese were once regarded as imitators. Today they are regarded
as good craftsmen.
b. T he Japanese were once regarded as imitators; today they are regarded
as good craftsmen.
c. The Japanese were once regarded as imitators, but today they are
regarded as good craftsmen.
d. T he Japanese were once regarded as imitators; today, however, they are
regarded as good craftsmen.
