ตัวอย่างเชน่
- Thailand has compulsory education. Boys and girls must attend school

until they reach a certain age.
ผอู้ า่ นสามารถเดาความหมายของ compulsory education วา่ หมายถงึ การศกึ ษา

ภาคบงั คับโดยอ่านจากขอ้ ความทั้งหมด
1.6 ค�ำที่แสดงความหมายคล้ายคลึงหรือความเหมือน (Similar Meaning) ค�ำช้ีแนะ

ประเภททแี่ สดงความคลา้ ยคลึงกนั หรอื เหมอื นกัน แบง่ เปน็ 2 ประเภท ได้แก่
1) ค�ำชีแ้ นะประเภททีแ่ สดงความเหมอื นแบบเปรียบเทยี บ ได้แก่

as/as……….as เหมอื นกบั similarly (adv)
like/alike เหมอื น, คล้าย likewise (adv)
similar to เหมอื นกบั , คลา้ ยกับ correspondingly (adv) ในท�ำนองเดียวกัน
resemble/resembles (v) เหมือนกับ, คล้ายกบั in the same way (adv)
as if/as though ราวกบั ว่า

ตวั อยา่ งเช่น
- He is as cunning as an old fox; don’t trust him.
ค�ำช้ีแนะคือ as……….as ดังน้ัน cunning จึงหมายถึง old fox; don’t trust

him. (ฉลาดแกมโกงเหมอื นสนุ ขั จิ้งจอก; อย่าไปไว้ใจ)
- Like his father, who is a gregarious man, he enjoys the company of

others.
ค�ำชี้แนะ คือ like ดังน้ัน gregarious กค็ ือ enjoys the company of others
- A tiger and a panther are nearly alike. A panther has a yellow coat

with dark spots, but a tiger is bigger and has an orange coat with black stripes.
