กระบวนการทป่ี ระกอบกันขึ้นเป็น register อาจแบ่งออกไดด้ งั น้ี
(1) Field คอื ลกั ษณะของภาษาทใ่ี ชซ้ ง่ึ ขนึ้ อยกู่ บั สถานการณ์ อาจแบง่ ออกไดเ้ ปน็ สอง

ประเภท คอื ภาษาเทคนิคหรอื ภาษาทางด้านวิชาการสาขาใดสาขาหนง่ึ (technical) และภาษาท่ี
ใช้ในชวี ติ ประจำ� วันทั่วๆ ไป (non-technical)

(2) Mode คอื วธิ กี ารสอื่ ความ ไดแ้ ก่ ภาษาพดู (speaking) และภาษาเขยี น (writing)
(3) Manner คือบทบาทของผู้ใช้ภาษาและความสัมพันธ์ระหว่างผู้ใช้ภาษา ความ
สมั พนั ธ์ (social role) เชน่ เปน็ ญาตกิ นั เปน็ ผทู้ ำ� งานรว่ มกนั หรอื เปน็ ผอู้ ยใู่ ตบ้ งั คบั บญั ชา เปน็ ตน้
และบทบาทของผู้ใช้ภาษา (social attitude) เช่น ต้องการออกค�ำส่ัง ต้องการแสดงความสุภาพ
หรือความเปน็ กันเอง ดงั นเ้ี ป็นต้น
1. ลักษณะของภาษาท่ีใช้ซึ่งข้ึนอยู่กับสถานการณ์ (Field) ภาษาทางด้านวิชาการ หรือ
technical language จะมลี กั ษณะเฉพาะทที่ ำ� ใหผ้ อู้ า่ นซง่ึ มปี ระสบการณพ์ อควรสามารถบอกไดท้ นั ที
วา่ ภาษานน้ั ๆ เปน็ ภาษาทางการแพทย์ หรอื ภาษากฎหมาย หรอื ภาษาราชการ เปน็ ตน้ ดตู วั อยา่ ง

hereof, whereof, thereof และการเขียนวันเดือนปมี ักใชต้ ัวหนังสือแทนตวั เลขเพื่อปอ้ งกนั การผดิ
พลาด ในตวั อยา่ งทยี่ กมาจะเหน็ วา่ เปน็ การทำ� สญั ญาชนดิ หนงึ่ ขอ้ ความทำ� นองนผี้ อู้ า่ นทเี่ ปน็ คสู่ ญั ญา
ต้องอ่านและตีความอย่างระมัดระวังเพ่ือไม่ให้เสียประโยชน์ในการเซ็นสัญญา ผู้ร่างสัญญาก็จ�ำเป็น
ทจ่ี ะต้องวางเง่อื นไขตา่ งๆ ไว้ใหช้ ัดแจ้ง ภาษาทใี่ ช้จงึ ดคู อ่ นข้างจะเย่ินเย้อ
